WOMEN AND SPORTS: IN BARI THE INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR OF THE EPIC BASKET PROJECT HAS CONCLUDED.

At the Salvemini secondary school the final event of the European project for gender equality in sport through the partners of Spain, Portugal and Turkey to promote female participation in Sport. The international seminar of the EPIC Basketball project, an acronym of the title "Equal oPorts through Inclusive Cooperation in Basketball", took place in Bari, 13 November 2019 in the lecture hall of the "Gaetano Salvemini" high school.

During the initiative, the results of the project launched last January and funded by the European EACEA agency under the Erasmus + Sport program were presented, in the presence of the 12 partners participating in the initiative from Mirandela (Portugal), Pedreguer ( Spain), Malatya (Turkey).

It was a unique opportunity to discuss the improvement of good practices to combat gender inequalities, especially in sport, in the presence, among others, of the head teacher of the institute Prof. Tina Gesmundo, president of Coni Puglia Angelo Giliberto, president Italian Basketball Federation – Regional Committee Puglia Margaret Gonnella and students of the fourth and fifth grades of the scientific-sports of secondary school with over 300 auditors. The Vice Mayor of the Municipality of Bari will do the honors with responsibility for community and sport policies.

To complete the meeting, organized by Asd Margherita Sport and Vita local partner of the project, a debate was held on the importance of gender equality among athletes: the participation of Luisa Rizzitelli and Alice Bruni, president of the Assist association (Communis Group), it was used for the fund to support maternity for newly established athletes.

The meeting in Bari will also represent the possibility to reciprocate the exquisite hospitality offered to the Apulian delegations on the occasion of the initiatives already organized in Mirandela, Pedrenguer and Malatya. This last appointment in particular involved eight basketball players of the 2000 and 2001 classes last February, in the double role of players and instructors-ambassadors of women's basketball among the peers of Spain, Portugal and Turkey. The event ended with the training of Basketball in the presence of 40 players and the participation of ASD Pink Basket of Bari; the training was coordinated by the Coach of MSV Basket Claudio Centrone.
